Reconcile Transactions

Sometimes some of my transactions from my bank are not imported properly, for whatever reason. This puts the balance out of whack.
I need to be able to reconcile this balance instead of haphazardly updating it -- need to figure out which transactions were imported and which were not. This is a very tedious process right now :(

I agree and wish I could upvote this request many multiple times over. I traded YNAB for Lunch Money because of the multi-currency features. I'm frustrated to not have a reconciliation tool in Lunch Money. Each month feels like a, "best guess," rather than solid balances. I don't like it. But, I also couldn't handle the headache of two currencies in YNAB. Ugh.

This is vital. Sometimes an a transaction does not import into Lunch Money but the account balance in Lunch Money still matches the online balance, so I cannot tell if a transaction has been missed without reviewing detailed transaction list for each account. This is tedious as I have many accounts and I must put two browser windows side-by-side and go through each transaction. Please add account reconciliation.

I would also like to reiterate how critical this is! As an accountant one of the most important features I need in a budgeting & reporting tool is the ability to confirm my transactions & balances agree to the source data!
I'm 2 years deep into my LunchMoney journey, so I've found ways to do this manually, but this feature gap is the main thing holding me back from sharing this otherwise awesome platform with my accounting friends

I have been trying out Lunch Money for a couple weeks. Unfortunately, the dealbreaker for me is that there is no reconciliation tool. If you ever add, I'd use Lunch Money.

I upvote this. Today i use Claude connected to LM MCP and have setup a skill to reconcile but it would be great to have native features that
Show a cleared and uncleared balance without having to fetch all data.
Also in UI it will be helpful to have an extra confirmation when a clear txn is attempted to be changed

Phillip Matro Capiral would you be willing to share this skill?

I am a bit confused about why this wasn't one of the MVP capabilities in the app from day one. Is the concept of a "balanced checkbook" not a fundamental part of fiscal responsibility in today's world? I'm not asking this to be critical or judgmental, but I really want to understand the common practice. With direct access to bank records (which didn't exist 30 years ago) do we have enough confidence in the bank's records that we don't need to verify our own records are accurate? Even so, when I make a data entry error or omit or double-record transactions, how can I trust that my records are truly an accurate representation of reality?

I recently joined Lunchmoney and this is also a feature I am missing.
Through an automatic feed my balance was updated (matching the balance on my banking statement), but not all transactions were imported , successfully. I just happened to spot this, but there was nothing that alerted me from a system perspective.
An easy fix would be something that I have in several accounting software such as Quickbooks or Xero it shows 2 balances:
- System balance (a mathematical calculation - sum of all transactions)
- Bank statement balance (either through the bank feed, or you enter it manually).
If both balances match, you know all transactions are in. If they don't, you are alerted that something is wrong and you need to investigate further.
As a phase 2 you can certainly build a more advanced reconciliation feature, but the two balances alone would really help.

Hi,
I am new here, and I just imported all transactions from my accounts. While this is not a 'permanent' fix, just one I would suggest as an Accountant -- as this is how I am using within my own budgeting processes.
On the home page (overview) and on the account page itself the most up-to-date account balance is available from your last sync. Say it shows $1,500.
To verify your transactions are 100% entered, go to Finance>transactions, then filter on this account for 'all time'. Within the search there is a result for the filtered total. Say it shows $325 (it will be negative for credit accounts).
So for my situation, I know there would be a "starting balance" missing to prop up this ending balance to reconcile with the bank's number assuming all my newest transactions were entered correctly. This start value would be $1,175. Double check against your old bank statement to ensure this date period had that as its balance -- reconciled your "day zero".
I have created a category (9-None) as income, excluded from budgets(optional), and excluded as totals.
Make a Payee named "Start Balance".
I enter the $1,175 on my day zero.
Alternatively, you can add a special tag as "OPEN". However, I am seeing this as a lesser robust feature for this situation.
The aspect here is that you now have a listing of transactions to always total your current statement.
The singular opening transaction created is not additive to your budget nor is it displaying as actual income/spending.
