Rule to remove x% of transaction

Use case: I share a credit card with a partner, but also track personal expenses in LM. I'd like to split transactions on our shared card so that my totals accurately reflect the amounts I am responsible for.

Hi Alex, you can more-or-less achieve this with the current rules:
For every transaction that comes in for account XYZ, split in half, assign one half of the transaction to a category "Ignore" (mark as exclude from budget, exclude from totals).
It won't remove it from your view, but it won't affect any of your numbers. Might tie in nicely when we eventually support saved transaction views, then you can set your default view to exclude transactions categorized "Ignore".

Jen from Lunch Money: That seems to work at first glance, but now as soon as I make a new rule that assigns categories, the rule for splitting the one card becomes overwritten. For example, I've used your suggested rule to split transactions on the account, but as soon as I assign actual categories to the half of the transactions I do not want ignored, and make rules supporting them, the rule re-overwrite the initial split and assignment of the 'ignore' category. Is this something I can address using the 'priority' field of the rule? If so, how?

Alex: If I understand correctly, you want to 1. split the transaction into 2 and then 2. run the split transactions through rules again to further organize the transactions which are not in the "Ignored" category?
I believe this is where this feature request comes into play: https://lunchmoney.canny.io/rules/p/rule-to-remove-x-of-transaction

Jen from Lunch Money: Yes you are understanding my request correctly.
For some reason as soon as I created the split rule as suggested, it categorized all of the non-ignored transactions as 'Coffee Shops' regardless of how they were originally categorized, which is obviously not ideal. Another solution would be to allow for splits but pass-through the original categorization more successfully to the non-ignored half.

Jen from Lunch Money: i chose to try out Lunch Money for this exact feature! It works for me although a bit clunky. Auto splitting transactions fixes my budget tab but it does not fix the issue of the current months net worth not reflecting my actual liabilities. It's my understanding that after the balances become historical, they can be edited. But it would be great to create a system rule of sorts to auto calculate/edit the current balance on the account and transactions! (In my case, I also share credit cards with a partner and would only want 50% of the balance reflected in my Lunch Money budget!)
