Import/Export for Categories (separate from transactions)

I’d love to have the ability to import and export Categories independently of transactions. This would make it much easier to migrate data, back up my custom category structures, or share setups across different Lunch Money accounts. Thanks!

This was addressed in release #246. 🎉
You can now export (and share!) your categories using the 'Copy to Clipboard' option; accessed via the drop-down menu next to the 'Add new category' button.

Hi Ben, it IS possible to import/export categories and tags with the Lunch Money API. If you'd like to get some help using the API for your use case, feel free to email me, or ask a question in the Developers channel on the Lunch Money Discord.
You can find an example of a tool I wrote to create categories and category groups based on a CSV file here.
It's also possible to share Categories and Tags across multiple budgets within the same account. If this fits your use case, click on the green circle in the upper right hand corner of the Lunch Money screen, click on "Create a new Budget Account", and then enable the Copy Tags and Copy Categories from current Budget options.
