I would find it helpful to see how I performed vs. my budget on a total basis in addition to the by-category comparison.

This was addressed in release #238. 🎉
You can now view totals at the bottom of each column, as well as in the Budget Overview on the sidebar!

I think this is least a suggestion. See “ Total for Budget” one and add votes there.
